Resumo

O bem-estar pessoal mede a satisfação individual com a vida, abrangendo saúde mental e física, resiliência e qualidade de vida. Como parte de um programa de pesquisa pandêmico no Peru, estes autores previamente demonstraram que a Meditação Transcendental aumentou o bem-estar em 49 meninas órfãs em 33%. Agora estudamos crianças do ensino fundamental II. Mediante delineamento quase-experimental pré-teste-pós-teste com N = 402 crianças indígenas do 5° e 6° anos em três escolas, o bem-estar aumentou após praticar Meditação Transcendental de 62,6/90 (69,5%) para 68,4/90 (78,0%), representando incremento de 24,5% estatisticamente significativo. Escola, gênero e idade não influenciaram esta melhoria. Como o bem-estar prediz saúde e longevidade, esses resultados sugerem um futuro mais promissor para as crianças peruanas.
